ALEXANDRIA:  Harold V. Vannatta, 87, of Alexandria died peacefully while in the company of his loving family at the St. John Health Systems of Anderson.

 

Harold was born on November 12, 1922 and was the son of Walter W. and Nellie B. (Bebout) Vannatta. On Feb. 15, 1946 he married Elsie (Street) Vannatta who survies.

 

Harold served his country during WWII in the United States Army and served in the CBI Unit during the war. He took a special pride in attending the 60th Anniversary of the end of WWII held in Washington, DC in 2005

 

 

Harold was retired from Delco Remy-Anderson. He was affiliated with the Vermillion Friends Church. He also was a life member of the Amvets Post 12-Muncie, National American Legion Post 777-Indianapolis and Local UAW 662.

 

Harold was a loving and caring Husband, Father and Grandfather.

 

Survivors include his wife Elsie, three sons, Richard (Becky) Vannatta-Anderson, Carl Vannatta-Alexandria, David Lee (Shelly) Vannatta-Arlington, TX. Two daughters, Bobbi (Wayne) Bissen-Tyler, TX and Betty (Mike Durant) Vannatta-Alexandria. One brother, Lawrence “Bud” (Betsy) Vannatta-Hondo, TX and a beloved sister-in-law, Dorothy Street. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services for Harold will Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Fred Burke officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandra. Military rites will be provided by Elwood VFW Post 5782.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

 

The family request memorials be made to the Vermillion Friends Church in care of the funeral home.

 

Harold’s family would like to extend their appreciation the the staffs of the Medowbrooke Rehab Center and St. Johns Health Systems for their loving and caring care of Harold.
