Arthur Watts

Arthur Stanley Watts, 83 of Bradenton, FL and former Alexandria and Summitville resident, died Dec. 24, 2011 in Westminster Towers, Bradenton after a brief illness.
Art was born Jan. 15, 1928 in Jackson, MI and was the son of Stanley and Ellen (Black) Watts. On Dec. 31, 1947 he married Opal (Swaim) Watts.
Art was a 1945 graduate of Summitville High School and served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He retired from Delco Remy in 1988 as Chief of Plant Security. Art served on the Summitville Town Board and the Summitville Fire Dept. serving as Chief. He also served as a City Councilman with the City of Alexandria.
Art was a former member of the Alexandria Christian Church and a current member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bradenton, FL. He also was a member of the Alexandria Lions Club and Fairmount Lodge #635 of the F& AM.
Survivors include his two Daughters, Cheryl (James) Dunlap of Bradenton, FL. and Mary Ann (Monte) Sprague of Fishers. Five Grandchildren, Dawn Dunlap, Kevin Dunlap, Joshua Watson, Suzanne (Kerry) Vick and Ashley (Paul) Larimore. Five Great-Grandchildren, Bret Watson, William Watson, Xander Watson, Branson Watson and Kelsea Vick. Also surviving is a Brother-in-law, Harold (Delores) Swaim and Sister-in-law Donnis (John) Kirkpatrick.
Art was preceded in death by his Parents and his wife of 63 years Opal (Swaim) Watts on Feb. 28, 2011.
A memorial service to celebrate Art’s life will be held on Jan. 21, 2012 at 12:00 p.m, in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Dr. Norman R. Parr officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville where military rites will provided by VFW Post 5782 and the United States Navy. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Masonic Rites will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Summitville Fire Dept. or Bethel Baptist Church of Bradenton, Fl in care of the funeral home.
