Kenneth Bryan

Kenneth C Bryan, 76 of Elwood and a former Alexandria resident died Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in his residence after an extended illness.

Kenny was born on Oct. 21, 1942 in Elwood, IN and was the son of Elmer (Bud) and Martha Jane (Kratz) Bryan. On Aug. 25, 1963 he married Arlene (Allen) Bryan.

Kenny lived his whole life in the Elwood/Alexandria area. He attended Alexandria High School and graduated from Frankton High School in 1960. Kenny was employed at Madison Co. Farm Bureau CO-OP for 16 years. He, along with his wife, Arlene, took over ownership of her family’s shoe store and ran it as Bryan’s Bootery for 10 years. He also drove a bus for the Alexandria School Corp. In 1988, Kenny became a Master Clockmaker and operated his own business, Bryans Clock Repair, for over 30 years.

Kenny was a former member of the Alexandria Eagles Lodge #1771 and the Alexandria Elks Lodge. He was member of the AMHS Band Boosters, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and the Alexandria Historical Society. He was of the Alexandria First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as Trustee and Deacon. He was recently attending the Elwood First United Methodist Church. Kenny grew up on a farm and enjoyed the outdoors. He had a passion for carpentry, camping, traveling, playing cards, and helping his grandkids with 4-H. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Left to carry on his legacy of love is his wife, Arlene, his children, Jeff (Jenny) Bryan and Lisa (Duane) Martin; his grandchildren, Daren Martin, Savannah Martin and Bridget Thompson and his great-grandson, Layne Snyder. Also surviving are his cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A service to celebrate Kenny’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Doug Bohall and Rev. Ken Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, July 22, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts are made to the Madison Co. Junior Leaders Assn. or the Alexandria Historical Society. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
