Mae Gaither

Mae E. Gaither, 91 of Alexandria went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 30, 2011 in Community Northview Care Center after an extended illness.

Mae was born May 18, 1920 in Summitville and was the daughter of Carroll and Gertrude (Hazelbaker) Newcomb. On Dec. 30, 1939 she married Robert W.”Willis” Gaither.

After 25 years of service Mae retired from the Danner’s Dime Store, Alexandria, and she was a member of the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene.

Mae was a loving and caring Mother and Grandmother always enjoying her time with her family.

Surviving is her daughter, Linda (Terry) Byrd of Alexandria, two grandchildren, Shane (Laura) Byrd and Alina (Shawn) Snyder both of Alexandria. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Zack Byrd, Emma Byrd, Kaylee Snyder, Kierstern Snyder and Tanner Snyder.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert W “Willis” Gaither in 2007 and a sister, Grace Gaither.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Jan, 4, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene, 1401 S Harrison St., Alexandria with Rev. Mark Diemer officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene Family Life Center 1401 S. Harrison St,, Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
