Nancy Payton

: Nancy L Payton, 58, of Alexandria died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family after an extended illness.
Nancy was born on Nov. 26, 1956 in Anderson and was the daughter of Patrick and Regina (Roesler) Hellmann. On Aug. 23, 1980 she married Bradley R Payton who survives.
She was a 1975 graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School, then went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University. While attending Ball State she was a member of the Ball State Lacrosse and Badminton Teams. Nancy had been a teacher for 15years at St. Mary’s Catholic School where she taught Physical Education, Computer Science and General Science.
Nancy was a lifetime member of the Church of St. Mary’s, former choir member, the Daughters of Isabelle and the Eagles Lodge Aries 1771 Ladies Auxiliary, Alexandria.
She was an avid photographer; she enjoyed collecting Lighthouses, camping and fishing and was a enthusiastic fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the St. Louis Cardinals. But her greatest joy and love was spending time with her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 35 years, Bradley, their children, Amanda (Joe) Granger, Anthony (Kris) Payton, Gregory (Lynnsey) Payton, Brandon (Eve) Payton and Thomas (Michelle) Payton all of Alexandria, her brothers, Patrick (Jane) Hellmann of Alexandria and Tom (Julie) Hellmann of Mainssville, OH, her sisters, Christine (Larry) Miller of Lafayette, Marianna (Mike) Megel of North Vernon, Linda (Danny) Woodbeck of Winnipeg, Canada. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Liam Payton, Jozie Payton, Jack Payton, Issac Granger, Zerek Granger, Kyson Granger, Grayson Granger and Penny Payton.
She was preceded in death by her Parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept.21, 2015 at 10:00 am in the Church of St. Mary’s, 816 W Monroe St., Alexandria with Fr. Dan Duff and Fr. David Hellmann as Celebrants. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the St. Mary’s School Gymnasium on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. a Rosary Service will be conduct at 5:30 p.m on Sunday to conclude the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1710, New York, NY 10122 or the St. Mary’s School. 816 W Monroe, Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
