Cynthia J. Riga Madden, a beloved resident of Anderson, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after a brave battle with cancer. She was 74 years old.
Born on July 25, 1951, in Elwood, Indiana, Cynthia was the cherished daughter of Richard and Joyce (Stamm) McCorkle. On June 18, 2022, she embarked on a new chapter in her life by marrying Paul W. Madden, sharing their lives in love and companionship.
Cynthia’s unwavering faith and profound relationship with her Lord were the cornerstones of her life. As a devoted attender of Faith Assembly of God Church in Anderson, she found both strength and solace in her spiritual community.
A master gardener at heart, Cynthia truly flourished in her beautiful flower gardens, finding joy and peace in nurturing them. She also had a passion for country-gospel music and enjoyed the thrilling narratives of True Crime TV, which provided her with many moments of happiness.
As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Cynthia always kept her family close to her heart. She was nurturing and supportive, leaving a legacy of love that will be cherished by those she leaves behind.
Cynthia’s memory will forever be held close by her husband, Paul W. Madden; her son, Seth (Katy) Riga; her daughters, Bobbie Jean (Robert) Rankin and Camilla (Micheal DeFund) Shawley; her brother, Larry McCorkle; and her sisters, Sandra Weaver, Janelle Raper, Virgie Schellenbarker, and Denise Chimosky. She will also be remembered fondly by her grandchildren Ryan (Hayley) Rankin, Riley (Shaley) Rankin, Courtney Shawley, Noah Shawley, Selah Shawley, Caleigh Shawley, Jonathan Friend, and Grace Friend, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jackson, June, Charley, Damian, and Salem.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her brother Neil McCorkle, and her sister Lynette McCorkle.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Cynthia’s remarkable life during a gathering on Sunday, August 31, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. at Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, located at 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria. Following the service, she will be cremated in accordance with her wishes.
Bud and Susan Whetsel are honored to provide care for Cynthia and to support her family during this time of remembrance. Cynthia's life was a testament to love, faith, and family — qualities that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
