Flora Jane Buck, 103, of Alexandria, passed away on January 20, 2026 at her residence. Flora was born on June 1, 1922, to Joe and Ida (Lay) Wright in a small farmhouse in rural Casey County, Kentucky, about ten miles from Liberty. It was there, surrounded by the values of hard work and simple living, that her life's foundation was formed. At a young age, Flora made the decision to follow the Lord at Block Church, often referred to as the little country church near her home, a commitment to faith that guided her throughout her life.
On May 11, 1943, Flora married Berkley Buck while he was home on furlough from the United States Army during World War II. Later, she moved to Indiana, where she worked at Guide Lamp from 1942 until 1956, contributing faithfully during the war years and beyond. After the war, Flora and Berkley purchased a farm in Alexandria, Indiana, a place that would remain her home for the rest of her life.
Flora was far more than a homemaker, she worked the farm alongside her husband for over 50 years, tending to the demanding daily tasks that came with farm life. She carried this work with quiet strength, resilience, and pride, never shying away from the labor it required.
A longtime member of Glad Tidings Church, Anderson, Flora's faith remained central throughout her life. She faithfully attended her Monday morning ladies' Bible study for many years, treasuring the fellowship and spiritual growth it provided. Music was also a source of comfort and joy for her, and she especially loved the music of Bill Gaither.
Flora loved her family deeply and found joy in the simple moments spent together. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and working on puzzles with her great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Her life was marked by devotion to her faith, her family, and the land she worked so faithfully.
She is lovingly survived by her son, Gary (Debra) Buck of Alexandria; daughter, Linda (Roy) Middleton of Ohio; grandchildren, Gary William (Mindy) Buck, Tara (Dave) Becki, Vincent (Katie) Buck, Matthew Middleton, and Sarah (Andres) Morales; and five great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in her later years.
Flora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Berkley Buck; her parents; her three older brothers, Johnny, Elvin, and Willis Wright; and her younger brother, Shelby Wright.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S Park Ave, Alexandria, IN.
