Garland Shelton, 90, of Alexandria, Indiana, passed away on March 16, 2026, at Alexandria Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born on October 10, 1935, in Flag Pond, Tennessee, to Roscoe and Emily (Cutshall) Shelton.
Garland was an intelligent and hardworking man who dedicated many years as a machinist at the General Motors Chevrolet transmission plant in Muncie, Indiana, until his retirement in 1998.
On February 14, 2004 Garland married Louvella Stapleton-Wilson sharing years of love and companionship together.
Garland loved the Lord with all his heart and attended GT Church whenever he was able. On Sunday, March 15, 2026, he was made an honorary member of the church, a meaningful blessing in his life. In his later years, he also greatly enjoyed the game of golf.
Garland is survived by his loving wife, Louvella Shelton of Alexandria; daughter, Carol (Ron) Vogel of Chesterfield; sons, Michael Shelton of Anderson, and Phil (Eliane) Shelton of Shelton Laurel, North Carolina; five brothers; four sisters; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Shelton and Emily Shelton.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at GT Church, 2604 N. Scatterfield Road, Anderson, Indiana. A service to celebrate Garland's life will begin at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor David Crawford officiating.
Private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Avenue, Alexandria, Indiana. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.
Memorial contributions may be made in Garland's memory to Glad Tidings AOG, 2604 N. Scatterfield Road, Anderson, Indiana.Bud and Susan Whetsel, along with the entire staff, are honored to care for the Shelton family during this time.
