Helen D Gorman

February 7, 1929 — March 23, 2026

Alexandria

Helen Gorman, 97, of Summitville and formerly of Alexandria, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson in Anderson, Indiana.

Helen was born on February 7, 1929, in Chatham, Ohio, to John and Alice (Sprague) Ramsey. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1947 and later worked at Guide Lamp in Anderson, Indiana, where she remained until her retirement in 1987.

On March 28, 1948, Helen married the love of her life, Raymond Gorman. Together they shared 63 years of marriage and built a family that became the center of Helen's life.

Helen was a woman of deep and steadfast faith. She was a member of Innisdale United Brethren Church, where she faithfully served, played the piano and organ, and sang in the choir. She also attended First Baptist Church in Alexandria with her son. Her faith was evident in the way she lived, in the love she gave to others, and in the quiet strength she carried throughout her life.

Helen dearly loved her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a deep love for her grandchildren and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. She found joy in life's simple blessings, especially gardening and caring for her flowers, which she loved dearly.

Helen is survived by her children, Rodney Gorman, Sr. of Elwood, Linda (Phil) Ellis of Anderson, Joy Toombs of Orestes, Kim (Pam) Gorman of Alexandria, and Teena Stanley of Alexandria; her grandchildren, Rodney Gorman, Jr., Dawn Lovell, Seth Stone, Emily Cole, Jeromy Troxell, Kara Brown, Grant Gorman, Bailey Gorman, Lauren Lutton, Kayla Stanley, and Mikenzy Stanley; 13 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gorman; her parents, John and Alice Ramsey; her infant daughter, Alyssia Gorman; her son-in-law, David Toombs; and four brothers and four sisters.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 South Park Avenue, Alexandria, Indiana. A service to celebrate Helen's life will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Deutsch. Burial will follow at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
