James Michael Kemp, 58 of Alexandria died on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Community Hospital, Anderson after a brief illness.
Mike was born in Evansville, Indiana on May 20, 1966, and was the son of Roger Kemp, Jr. and Carol (Stratman) Kemp-Learned. On December 10, 2009, he married Jasmine (Miller) Kemp. As a young man Mike was involved in Scouting where he achieved scouting’s highest award as an Eagle Scout.
He was employed as a electrical engineer for Red Gold.
Mike received an associates degree from Purdue University in electrical engineering and an associate’s degree from Ivy Tech in mechanics.
Mike spent many hours working with his dad on cars and other mechanical projects, such as his pride and joy, “Big Red” his 1947 Ford pickup and his 1978 Mach 1 Ford Mustang. He also had a love for fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jasmine (Miller) Kemp, his children, Austin Turpen, Anthony (Danielle) Discordia, Toby Carroll, Raylee Kemp, Mikaelya Seals and Auryon Seals; his father, Roger (Barbara) Kemp, Jr.; his mother, Carol Learned; brothers, Robert J. Walker and Roger W. (Amber) Kemp III; sisters, Kathleen Kemp, Julie (Rodney) Klaserner, Cynthia (Marvin) Kauffman, Joy Ellingwood, Megan Kemp, Michelle (Michael) Del Busto and Melanie (Lige) Hensley.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Norman Learned.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Burial will follow. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria.
