Roy Michael Cox

Roy Michael "Mick" Cox, of Summitville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Community Hospital Anderson in Anderson, Indiana.

Mick was born on October 9, 1967, in Union City, Indiana, to Roy H. and Alonnia Richelina Mae (Kelley) Cox. He graduated from Madison-Grant High School in 1985 and later earned college credits through on-the-job training.

Mick was a talented machinist and took pride in his work. He enjoyed NASCAR, sports, especially the Indianapolis Colts, fishing, collecting knives, and sports memorabilia.

Of all his accomplishments, Mick's greatest achievements were being a father and grandfather. He loved his family deeply, and he loved Kathy. He did not need paperwork to prove the love and commitment they shared. Above all, Mick had a special place in his heart for his dog, Milo. Kathy and Will would lovingly say Milo was Mick's "other son" and truly his first love.

Mick is survived by his wife, Kathy Purtee; son, Will Cox and his wife, Frida; granddaughter, Carolina "JoJo" Cox; sister, Rhonda Hintz; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy H. and Alonnia Cox; and his sister, Renee Davis.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Whetsel Funeral Service. A service celebrating Mick's life will begin at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor John Foster officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mick's honor to Alpha-1 Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, Coral Gables, Florida 33134.

Private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 South Park Avenue, Alexandria, Indiana.
