With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shannon Dee Porter, age 65, who left us peacefully on May 8, 2025, at Community Hospital in Anderson, after a courageous battle with cancer. Shannon's indomitable spirit and loving nature touched the lives of many.
Born on November 22, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana, Shannon was the cherished daughter of Dale W. and Dixie (Mundell) Porter. A dedicated worker throughout her life, she devoted herself to many endeavors, most notably as the owner of Porter Services, which she ran with passion and pride until her health began to decline.
Shannon had a profound love for animals, an ardor that drove her commitment to various animal rescue missions, including her involvement with the creation of Homer’s Helpers. Her compassion extended beyond her human connections and encompassed many furry friends in need.
A loving mother and devoted Nana, Shannon delighted in spending time with her family, showering her grandchildren with affection and creating countless treasured memories together including attending all events, wonderful birthday and holiday celebrations and sharing her wicked sense of humor with all of them. Cupcakes and pies in the face were her absolute favorite. Her legacy lives on through her children, Jeremy Porter, Kathryn Miller, and Daniel (Molly) Miller; her little sister, Jessica (Chris) Reeder-Craig; her stepmother, Beverly Whiteman; and her amazing grandchildren: Nicholas (Rowan), Jamilynn, Jacob (Maddie), Zachary, Emily, Matthew, Alexa, Marley, Marissa, Jackson, Brenton, Lukas, and Declan.
Shannon's warmth and kindness also extended to her family: nephews Nathan (Heather) Renz, Simon Renz, Kyle Reeder, Sven Reeder, and Henry Craig; Aunt Abby Porter-Ramsey (Harold), Aunt Dottie Porter, Aunt Barbara Lutton, Uncle Donald and Aunt Pat Bell, Uncle Bob and Aunt Emily Reeder; many beloved cousins and her close chosen family-friends; her gentleman-friend, John Gilbert, and special friends, Hilary Casstevens and Anita Craig; We are sure that she was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by all of her cherished fur babies, especially Dezi, Reuban, and her beloved childhood pony, Star.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dale and Dixie Porter; her grandparents, Wm. Basil and Kathryn Porter, Richard and Leola Watson; a special aunt, Joyce Diehl; and uncles Bobby Porter and James Ramsey.
