Thomas Harris

ALEXANDRIA: Thomas Lee “Tom” Harris, 54 of Alexandria died Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis after a brief illness.
Tom was born in Anderson on Oct. 3, 1963 and was the son of LeRoy and Patricia (McIntire) Harris. On Aug. 26, 1989 he married Ruth (Harrison) Harris.
Tom graduated from Frankton High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree at Tennessee Tech and a Master’s Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. He was employed by Aspire where he was the Supervisor for the Hudson House. Tom was active in the Boys Scouts of America where served as a Scout Master and a Den Leader for the Weebles Cub Scouts. He was a member of the Lake St. Baptist Church in Chesterfield.
Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Family was everything to him, that included his church and work families as well.
Tom is survived by his wife Ruth, his son, Drake Harris, a daughter, Erica (Jacob) Fluhr, nephews Quentin Harris, Royce Harris, Sullivan Harris and honorary son, Patrick Campbell. He is also survived by his special grandson, Kian Fluhr and great-niece, Aryanna. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews,Lola, Joe,Jessie,Leslie,Luke,R.J., Josh,Bradley,D.D.,Brandi and Wayne.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria. A celebration of life service will close the gathering time at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Ken King officiating.
Tom’s family respectfully requests that due to severe allergies with members of the family that you not wear perfume or cologne to the services and in lieu of flowers, that memorials are made to the Harris family for the care of their children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
