Wanda J Broyles

March 15, 1951 — January 28, 2026

Wanda J. Broyles, 74, of Elwood, passed away peacefully at 11:58 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Elwood Health and Living.

Wanda was born on March 15, 1951, in Marion, Indiana, to William and Elizabeth (Houston) Norris. She was a 1969 graduate of Summitville High School and carried with her a strong work ethic throughout her life.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Wanda spent many years in the manufacturing industry as a line production worker. Her final place of employment was with Roach, from which she later retired. On April 7, 1990, she married Mark Broyles. Together, they shared a love of archery and proudly earned several awards through competitions they enjoyed side by side. They also cherished a simple but meaningful morning routine, sharing coffee together each and every day, until Mark's passing in 2016.

Wanda attended First United Methodist Church in Alexandria and lived life with a spirit that was both joyful and unapologetically herself. She had a deep love for reading-especially books by Stephen King and Dean Koontz-and enjoyed watching movies, shopping (especially trips to Kmart with Reese), and admiring classic icons like Elvis Presley and Shirley Temple.

She adored the color lime green, loved caramel and Pepsi, and took great pride in growing flowers in her front yard. Wanda was rarely without a disposable camera, always capturing moments and memories as they happened. Known for her goofy, spunky personality, she delighted in dressing up for holidays-especially St. Patrick's Day-and brought laughter wherever she went. She also cherished her beloved cat, Jazzi, who was a constant companion.

Wanda is survived by her children: Mark (Monisa) Norris of Anderson; Brian (Subayda) Norris of Valparaiso, FL; Aaron Blackburn of Alexandria; Kelly Flores and Kristin Roberts of Anderson. She leaves behind many grandchildren who were the joy of her life, including Lanvin Getigan and Sayuri Norris of Anderson; Reese (Dalton Stansberry) Norris of Alexandria, who lovingly served as her caregivers; Angelica and Zachary Norris of Elwood; Kevin Getigan of the Philippines; and Rachel, Summer, and Serenity Norris of Valparaiso, FL. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, her brother Kevin Norris of Tehachapi, CA, and her sister Dana Sorrell of Elwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Broyles; her parents, William and Elizabeth Norris; her daughter, Kerry Thorpe; her son, Nate Broyles; her siblings, Laurie Bailey, Timothy Norris, and Chuck Norris.

Private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Avenue, Alexandria, Indiana.

In this time of grief, may we remember Wanda for the love, laughter, and light she brought into the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Bud and Susan Whetsel, along with the entire staff, are honored to care for the Broyles family during this time.
