Since 1997, we have had the privilege of serving our community with dignity, care, and heartfelt compassion. Each service we provide is centered on healing, offering families space to remember, reflect, and begin their journey forward. From the moment you walk through our doors, our hope is that you feel welcomed, respected, and truly heard.

A Personal Beginning

Shortly after Bud and Susan Whetsel were married in September of 1996, they recognized a need within the Alexandria community. Families deserved a locally owned, family-operated funeral home that would care for the people of Monroe Township with compassion and integrity.

As they began searching for the right location, Bud’s sister, Julayne Myers, discovered what would become the perfect building. Many community members remembered it fondly as a former daycare, though it was being used at the time as a dog training center. Bud and Susan saw its potential and, with the support of Susan’s parents, the Huestons, opened Hueston-Whetsel Funeral Service.

At that time, it stood as the only locally owned and family-operated funeral service in Alexandria. Bud and Susan poured their heart, hard work, and determination into building a place where families could find comfort and care. On February 11, 1997, they officially opened their doors to serve the community.

Through dedication and perseverance, Bud and Susan were able to repay Susan’s parents’ investment, becoming the sole owners and continuing their mission under the name Whetsel Funeral Service.

Today, that mission has grown. In addition to funeral services, families can design lasting tributes through Whetsel Memorials and honor beloved pets through Faithful Friends Pet Cremation. While the services have expanded, the foundation remains unchanged.

A part of the welcoming atmosphere families experience includes Dolly, our therapy dog. Her gentle presence has provided comfort, quiet companionship, and even moments of unexpected peace to many who walk through our doors. Dolly represents our belief that healing can come in many forms, and her visits are always guided by what feels right for each family.

From opening day to today, Whetsel Funeral Service continues to stand by the values that define who we are:
